Where Scottdale players train, and when

The local season, the programs players come up through, and how private coaching fits around them.

Scottdale sits close to Decatur and Clarkston in DeKalb County, where families lean on Atlanta programs like Surge Lacrosse and the Atlanta Lacrosse League rather than a hometown club.

How players come up here

The programs a Scottdale player moves through, youngest first.

  1. PreK to grade 8

    Rec entry through Surge

Scottdale families typically start kids in Surge Lacrosse's K to 8th grade rec league in Atlanta, since DeKalb County does not run its own youth program close by. Some also connect through the Atlanta Lacrosse League, which layers in fall middle school divisions for boys and girls.

  2. Middle school

Feeder teams and fall league play

Middle schoolers in this part of DeKalb mostly play through age-group and feeder teams tied to high school districts further north, plus the Atlanta Lacrosse League's fall middle school divisions, which give younger players organized fall games ahead of the spring high school push.

  3. High school

    GHSA season, February to May

GHSA sanctions boys and girls lacrosse in three divisions statewide. Practice opens mid-January, matches start early February, and the playoffs run into state finals by mid-May. Players from Scottdale feed into DeKalb County GHSA programs during this stretch.

  4. Summer and fall

    Club tryouts and fall tournaments

After the high school season ends, club and travel options like Team 91 Georgia and Dirty Birds for boys, Atlanta Aces for girls, and Atlanta Surge Select for both take over, with tryouts often in July and fall tournaments carrying into winter box play through the Georgia Swarm Box League.

Where private coaching fits

How families in and around Scottdale use an independent coach.

When families book

Families here often reach out in December or January, just ahead of the GHSA season opening in mid-January, to get private reps in before matches start. Others book in early summer, ahead of July club tryouts. The coach comes to you, wherever that is in DeKalb County.

Fields families use

Your backyard, a local park, or your club's field: you and your coach settle it directly, anywhere inside their travel radius.

Talk to the STXZ team
Can I pick the coach I want?

STXZ matches you with an independent coach based on your location, the player's level, position, and goals. You review that coach's profile by email first and can request a different match before anything is billed.

Is this a fit for a brand-new player in Scottdale?

Yes. Tell STXZ where your player is starting so the match accounts for their level. Beginners work on catching, cradling, and ground balls; experienced players focus on their position.

When do I actually pay?

Once you approve a match and agree on a start date, your invoice arrives by email. It is due in full at least five days before the first lesson. Registration itself requires no payment.

What does it cost in Scottdale?

Rates are per lesson and set for your zip code. Packages of 6 and 12 lessons lower the per-lesson rate, and the booking app accepts any count from 1 to 18. There is a one-time $20 service fee per player.

What if the first session is not a fit?

Contact STXZ within seven days of that lesson and choose a rematch with another coach at no additional charge or a refund of the lesson fees paid. The service fee is not refundable.

Where can we train, and what should we bring?

A backyard, park, or school field within the coach's travel radius, arranged directly with your coach. Bring your stick, protective equipment, and water. Indoor or paid facility charges are yours to cover.

Who are the coaches in Scottdale?

Independent contractors on the STXZ roster, not STXZ employees. Each passes a criminal background check and completes STXZ safety and conduct training before taking a first lesson. Coaching and playing history is provided by the coach, and clients are responsible for vetting their matched coach before booking.
