Where Dekalb County players train, and when

DeKalb County players tap into the wider Atlanta lacrosse pipeline, moving from rec-level starts toward GHSA high school programs and the club circuit that fills the offseason.

How players come up here

The programs a Dekalb County player moves through, youngest first.

  1. PreK to grade 8

    Rec and youth entry points

Families in DeKalb County connect into Atlanta-area rec programs such as Surge Lacrosse, which runs a K to 8th grade rec league in Atlanta alongside its Surge Select travel option, giving young players a first structured path into the sport.

  2. Middle school

    Feeder teams and fall leagues

Middle schoolers mostly play through high school district feeder programs and youth age-group teams, and the Atlanta Lacrosse League adds fall middle school divisions, giving DeKalb County players another route to regular game reps before high school.

  3. High school

    GHSA season and playoffs

GHSA sanctions boys and girls lacrosse across three divisions, with practice opening in mid-January, matches starting in early February, playoffs beginning in late April, and state finals in mid-May, the backbone of the high school season here.

  4. Summer and fall

    Club and travel play

Once the high school season ends, club programs such as Team 91 Georgia, Dirty Birds, Atlanta Aces and Atlanta Surge Select take over with fall tournaments and summer events, and fall ball runs September through November for players who want extra reps.

Where private coaching fits

How families in and around Dekalb County use an independent coach.

When families book

Because the coach comes to a park or driveway near home, DeKalb County families often set up private sessions before GHSA practice opens in mid-January or ahead of club tryouts in July, fitting lessons around whichever season is closest.

Fields families use

Your backyard, a local park, or your club's field: you and your coach settle it directly, anywhere inside their travel radius.

Talk to the STXZ team
Can I pick the coach I want?

STXZ matches you with an independent coach based on your location, the player's level, position, and goals. You review that coach's profile by email first and can request a different match before anything is billed.

Is this a fit for a brand-new player in Dekalb County?

Yes. Tell STXZ where your player is starting so the match accounts for their level. Beginners work on catching, cradling, and ground balls; experienced players focus on their position.

When do I actually pay?

Once you approve a match and agree on a start date, your invoice arrives by email. It is due in full at least five days before the first lesson. Registration itself requires no payment.

What does it cost in Dekalb County?

Rates are per lesson and set for your zip code. Packages of 6 and 12 lessons lower the per-lesson rate, and the booking app accepts any count from 1 to 18. There is a one-time $20 service fee per player.

What if the first session is not a fit?

Contact STXZ within seven days of that lesson and choose a rematch with another coach at no additional charge or a refund of the lesson fees paid. The service fee is not refundable.

Where can we train, and what should we bring?

A backyard, park, or school field within the coach's travel radius, arranged directly with your coach. Bring your stick, protective equipment, and water. Indoor or paid facility charges are yours to cover.

Who are the coaches in Dekalb County?

Independent contractors on the STXZ roster, not STXZ employees. Each passes a criminal background check and completes STXZ safety and conduct training before taking a first lesson. Coaching and playing history is provided by the coach, and clients are responsible for vetting their matched coach before booking.
