How players come up here

The programs a Watchung player moves through, youngest first.

  1. PreK to grade 2

    Rec and clinic entry point

Young players in Watchung enter lacrosse through rec programs in neighboring towns and clinics modeled on the Lady Colonials PreK-to-2nd-grade format for girls. These low-pressure introductions run from spring into mid-June and focus on basic stick skills and field awareness before league play begins.

  2. Grades 3 to 8

    Junior league competition

Boys programs in the Watchung area compete in the North Jersey Junior Lacrosse League through 8th grade. Girls compete in the New Jersey Junior Girls Lacrosse League, which provides a full March-to-May travel season starting in 3rd grade. Both leagues build the competitive foundation players carry into high school.

  3. High school

    NJSIAA spring season

High school practices open in March under NJSIAA rules, league games run through April and May, and the state tournament closes out in early June. Scotch Plains-Fanwood and other nearby programs are regular participants, giving Watchung players a clear competitive path at the varsity level.

  4. Summer and fall

    Club and travel play

Tri-State Lacrosse and other regional clubs run travel teams, camps, and clinics for players across the area through summer and fall. Weekend tournaments fill the off-season calendar and give committed players from Watchung opportunities to compete at a higher level outside the school season.

Fields families use

Your backyard, a local park, or your club's field: you and your coach settle it directly, anywhere inside their travel radius.

Talk to the STXZ team
Can I pick the coach I want?

STXZ matches you with an independent coach based on your location, the player's level, position, and goals. You review that coach's profile by email first and can request a different match before anything is billed.

Is this a fit for a brand-new player in Watchung?

Yes. Tell STXZ where your player is starting so the match accounts for their level. Beginners work on catching, cradling, and ground balls; experienced players focus on their position.

When do I actually pay?

Once you approve a match and agree on a start date, your invoice arrives by email. It is due in full at least five days before the first lesson. Registration itself requires no payment.

What does it cost in Watchung?

Rates are per lesson and set for your zip code. Packages of 6 and 12 lessons lower the per-lesson rate, and the booking app accepts any count from 1 to 18. There is a one-time $20 service fee per player.

What if the first session is not a fit?

Contact STXZ within seven days of that lesson and choose a rematch with another coach at no additional charge or a refund of the lesson fees paid. The service fee is not refundable.

Where can we train, and what should we bring?

A backyard, park, or school field within the coach's travel radius, arranged directly with your coach. Bring your stick, protective equipment, and water. Indoor or paid facility charges are yours to cover.

Who are the coaches in Watchung?

Independent contractors on the STXZ roster, not STXZ employees. Each passes a criminal background check and completes STXZ safety and conduct training before taking a first lesson. Coaching and playing history is provided by the coach, and clients are responsible for vetting their matched coach before booking.
