Where Fanwood players train, and when

The local season, the programs players come up through, and how private coaching fits around them.

Fanwood feeds players into the Scotch Plains-Fanwood high school program and connects to a regional lacrosse network that runs from youth rec leagues through NJSIAA tournament competition each spring.

How players come up here

The programs a Fanwood player moves through, youngest first.

  1. PreK through grade 8

    Rec and youth league entry

Boys town programs in the Morristown hub area compete in the North Jersey Junior Lacrosse League, the US Lacrosse-affiliated league covering northern New Jersey through 8th grade. Girls enter the New Jersey Junior Girls Lacrosse League from 3rd grade. Both seasons run March or April through mid-June.

  2. Middle school

    League play before high school

Middle school players in Fanwood follow the NJJLL path for boys and the New Jersey Junior Girls Lacrosse League for girls, building skills and game experience that carry directly into high school tryouts. Private coaching during this window often focuses on positioning, stick work, and reading the field.

  3. High school

    Scotch Plains-Fanwood spring season

Fanwood players compete under the Scotch Plains-Fanwood program, which operates within the NJSIAA framework. Practices begin in March, league games run through May, and the NJSIAA state tournament runs from late May into early June. Families often book coaching in January and February to prepare for tryouts.

  4. Summer and fall

    Club and travel tournament season

Club and travel play fills summer and fall with weekend tournaments across the region. Tri-State Lacrosse runs travel teams, camps, and clinics for boys across New Jersey. Families near Fanwood book independent coaches over the summer to sharpen skills before the fall ball and indoor winter clinic cycle begins.

Can I pick the coach I want?

STXZ matches you with an independent coach based on your location, the player's level, position, and goals. You review that coach's profile by email first and can request a different match before anything is billed.

Is this a fit for a brand-new player in Fanwood?

Yes. Tell STXZ where your player is starting so the match accounts for their level. Beginners work on catching, cradling, and ground balls; experienced players focus on their position.

When do I actually pay?

Once you approve a match and agree on a start date, your invoice arrives by email. It is due in full at least five days before the first lesson. Registration itself requires no payment.

What does it cost in Fanwood?

Rates are per lesson and set for your zip code. Packages of 6 and 12 lessons lower the per-lesson rate, and the booking app accepts any count from 1 to 18. There is a one-time $20 service fee per player.

What if the first session is not a fit?

Contact STXZ within seven days of that lesson and choose a rematch with another coach at no additional charge or a refund of the lesson fees paid. The service fee is not refundable.

Where can we train, and what should we bring?

A backyard, park, or school field within the coach's travel radius, arranged directly with your coach. Bring your stick, protective equipment, and water. Indoor or paid facility charges are yours to cover.

Who are the coaches in Fanwood?

Independent contractors on the STXZ roster, not STXZ employees. Each passes a criminal background check and completes STXZ safety and conduct training before taking a first lesson. Coaching and playing history is provided by the coach, and clients are responsible for vetting their matched coach before booking.
