Where Clarkston players train, and when

The local season, the programs players come up through, and how private coaching fits around them.

Clarkston families sit close to DeKalb County's lacrosse activity, with youth and club pathways running through nearby Decatur, Tucker, and Stone Mountain rather than a program based in town itself.

How players come up here

The programs a Clarkston player moves through, youngest first.

  1. PreK to grade 8

    Rec entry through nearby leagues

Clarkston players typically start in rec-style programs based in neighboring towns, since DeKalb County does not run a dedicated youth club in Clarkston itself. Families often connect with programs like Surge Lacrosse's K to 8th grade rec league, which plays in the Atlanta area and feeds into travel options later.

  2. Middle school

    District feeder teams take over

Middle schoolers around Clarkston usually move into age-group teams tied to a future high school district, similar to how Wheeler Jr. Wildcat Lacrosse or Walton Jr. Lacrosse work in Cobb County. The Atlanta Lacrosse League also runs fall middle school divisions that DeKalb players can join.

  3. High school

GHSA season from January to May

High schoolers play in the GHSA, which sanctions boys and girls lacrosse across three divisions statewide. DeKalb-area families often follow programs like Marist School in nearby Brookhaven, with practice opening in mid-January and matches running into state finals in mid-May.

  4. Summer and fall

Club travel after the spring season

Once the high school season ends, club and travel teams take over, with Atlanta Surge Select and Team 91 Georgia running boys programs and Atlanta Aces offering girls travel lacrosse. Tryouts often land in July, and fall tournaments pick back up before winter box league play.

Where private coaching fits

How families in and around Clarkston use an independent coach.

When families book

Families here tend to book most heavily in summer, once club tryouts are behind them and players want sharper stick skills before fall tournaments. A second wave books in winter, ahead of the January GHSA practice start, with the coach traveling to the family in or near Clarkston.

Fields families use

Your backyard, a local park, or your club's field: you and your coach settle it directly, anywhere inside their travel radius.

Can I pick the coach I want?

STXZ matches you with an independent coach based on your location, the player's level, position, and goals. You review that coach's profile by email first and can request a different match before anything is billed.

Is this a fit for a brand-new player in Clarkston?

Yes. Tell STXZ where your player is starting so the match accounts for their level. Beginners work on catching, cradling, and ground balls; experienced players focus on their position.

When do I actually pay?

Once you approve a match and agree on a start date, your invoice arrives by email. It is due in full at least five days before the first lesson. Registration itself requires no payment.

What does it cost in Clarkston?

Rates are per lesson and set for your zip code. Packages of 6 and 12 lessons lower the per-lesson rate, and the booking app accepts any count from 1 to 18. There is a one-time $20 service fee per player.

What if the first session is not a fit?

Contact STXZ within seven days of that lesson and choose a rematch with another coach at no additional charge or a refund of the lesson fees paid. The service fee is not refundable.

Where can we train, and what should we bring?

A backyard, park, or school field within the coach's travel radius, arranged directly with your coach. Bring your stick, protective equipment, and water. Indoor or paid facility charges are yours to cover.

Who are the coaches in Clarkston?

Independent contractors on the STXZ roster, not STXZ employees. Each passes a criminal background check and completes STXZ safety and conduct training before taking a first lesson. Coaching and playing history is provided by the coach, and clients are responsible for vetting their matched coach before booking.
