Where Marietta players train, and when

The local season, the programs players come up through, and how private coaching fits around them.

Marietta's lacrosse scene centers on Walton and Lassiter, two GHSA programs that give the town a boys and girls path from middle school rec teams into high school varsity play.

How players come up here

The programs a Marietta player moves through, youngest first.

  1. PreK to grade 8

    Rec leagues and youth teams

Young players in the Marietta area start in rec-style leagues before moving into age-group teams. Wheeler Jr. Wildcat Lacrosse and Walton Jr. Lacrosse, both based in Marietta, feed local skill development ahead of middle school and high school tryouts.

  2. Middle school

    District feeder programs

Middle schoolers mostly play through high school district feeder programs and youth age-group teams rather than a single middle school league, with the Atlanta Lacrosse League adding fall divisions for teams around the metro area.

  3. High school

    Walton and Lassiter varsity

Walton plays GHSA Division 3 boys and Lassiter plays GHSA Division 2 girls. The season opens with practice in mid-January, games start in early February, and the playoffs run into late April with state finals in mid-May.

  4. Summer and fall

    Club and travel ball

Players who want a longer season move into club and travel programs such as Team 91 Georgia and Dirty Birds for boys or Atlanta Aces for girls, with tryouts often in July and a schedule that runs from fall tournaments through summer events.

Where private coaching fits

How families in and around Marietta use an independent coach.

When families book

Families here often book a second wave of private lessons in summer, once club tryouts in July raise the stakes, then a smaller wave in winter around box lacrosse season. The coach comes to the family, so no field booking is needed.

Fields families use

Your backyard, a local park, or your club's field: you and your coach settle it directly, anywhere inside their travel radius.

Talk to the STXZ team
Can I pick the coach I want?

STXZ matches you with an independent coach based on your location, the player's level, position, and goals. You review that coach's profile by email first and can request a different match before anything is billed.

Is this a fit for a brand-new player in Marietta?

Yes. Tell STXZ where your player is starting so the match accounts for their level. Beginners work on catching, cradling, and ground balls; experienced players focus on their position.

When do I actually pay?

Once you approve a match and agree on a start date, your invoice arrives by email. It is due in full at least five days before the first lesson. Registration itself requires no payment.

What does it cost in Marietta?

Rates are per lesson and set for your zip code. Packages of 6 and 12 lessons lower the per-lesson rate, and the booking app accepts any count from 1 to 18. There is a one-time $20 service fee per player.

What if the first session is not a fit?

Contact STXZ within seven days of that lesson and choose a rematch with another coach at no additional charge or a refund of the lesson fees paid. The service fee is not refundable.

Where can we train, and what should we bring?

A backyard, park, or school field within the coach's travel radius, arranged directly with your coach. Bring your stick, protective equipment, and water. Indoor or paid facility charges are yours to cover.

Who are the coaches in Marietta?

Independent contractors on the STXZ roster, not STXZ employees. Each passes a criminal background check and completes STXZ safety and conduct training before taking a first lesson. Coaching and playing history is provided by the coach, and clients are responsible for vetting their matched coach before booking.
