Where Union players train, and when

The local season, the programs players come up through, and how private coaching fits around them.

Union Township players move from rec entry programs through NJSIAA high school competition and into regional club play, all within easy reach of one of New Jersey's most active lacrosse corridors.

How players come up here

The programs a Union player moves through, youngest first.

  1. PreK to grade 2

    Rec and entry-level play

Town recreation programs in Union County introduce young players to the basics in a low-pressure setting. Seasons typically run March or April through mid-June. These entry points build the foundation before players move into organized league competition in the later elementary grades.

  2. Grades 3 to 8

    Junior league competition

Boys programs in the area compete in the North Jersey Junior Lacrosse League, a US Lacrosse-affiliated league covering northern New Jersey through 8th grade. Girls programs enter the New Jersey Junior Girls Lacrosse League, which provides a full travel season from 3rd grade running March through May.

  3. High school

    NJSIAA spring season

High school lacrosse in New Jersey runs under the NJSIAA, with practices opening in March and league games carrying into May. The state tournament begins in late May and closes in early June. Programs like Westfield and Scotch Plains-Fanwood are among the regional teams that regularly reach the tournament.

  4. Summer and fall

    Club and travel teams

Club and travel play extends the lacrosse calendar well past the school season. Tri-State Lacrosse runs travel teams, camps, and clinics for boys across the region. Tournament weekends fill summer and fall, giving committed players from Union a path to higher-level competition between NJSIAA seasons.

Where private coaching fits

How families in and around Union use an independent coach.

When families book

Fields families use

Your backyard, a local park, or your club's field: you and your coach settle it directly, anywhere inside their travel radius.

Can I pick the coach I want?

STXZ matches you with an independent coach based on your location, the player's level, position, and goals. You review that coach's profile by email first and can request a different match before anything is billed.

Is this a fit for a brand-new player in Union?

Yes. Tell STXZ where your player is starting so the match accounts for their level. Beginners work on catching, cradling, and ground balls; experienced players focus on their position.

When do I actually pay?

Once you approve a match and agree on a start date, your invoice arrives by email. It is due in full at least five days before the first lesson. Registration itself requires no payment.

What does it cost in Union?

Rates are per lesson and set for your zip code. Packages of 6 and 12 lessons lower the per-lesson rate, and the booking app accepts any count from 1 to 18. There is a one-time $20 service fee per player.

What if the first session is not a fit?

Contact STXZ within seven days of that lesson and choose a rematch with another coach at no additional charge or a refund of the lesson fees paid. The service fee is not refundable.

Where can we train, and what should we bring?

A backyard, park, or school field within the coach's travel radius, arranged directly with your coach. Bring your stick, protective equipment, and water. Indoor or paid facility charges are yours to cover.

Who are the coaches in Union?

Independent contractors on the STXZ roster, not STXZ employees. Each passes a criminal background check and completes STXZ safety and conduct training before taking a first lesson. Coaching and playing history is provided by the coach, and clients are responsible for vetting their matched coach before booking.
