Where Oakland players train, and when

The local season, the programs players come up through, and how private coaching fits around them.

Oakland players move from North Jersey Junior Lacrosse League town ball into NJSIAA high school competition and regional club play, with private coaching fitting naturally around each step.

How players come up here

The programs a Oakland player moves through, youngest first.

  1. PreK through grade 6

    Rec and town entry programs

Youth lacrosse in the Oakland area feeds into the North Jersey Junior Lacrosse League for boys and the New Jersey Junior Girls Lacrosse League for girls, giving players structured town-level competition from the earliest grades. These programs build the fundamentals that carry players into middle school rosters.

  2. Grades 6 through 8

    Middle school league play

Boys programs compete in the North Jersey Junior Lacrosse League through 8th grade, and girls programs run in the New Jersey Junior Girls Lacrosse League. This is the stage where position skills, game awareness, and conditioning begin to matter for families thinking ahead to high school tryouts.

  3. High school

    NJSIAA spring season

Oakland-area players enter the NJSIAA spring season, with practices starting in March and the state tournament running from late May into early June. Programs across Bergen and Passaic County compete in this framework, and the jump in speed and physicality from middle school makes preseason preparation critical.

  4. Summer and fall

    Club and travel lacrosse

Tri-State Lacrosse runs travel teams, camps, and clinics across the region for boys, and girls travel programs extend the season well past the NJSIAA calendar. Tournament weekends fill summer and fall, and players who commit to club ball typically add private coaching sessions to stay sharp between events.

Where private coaching fits

How families in and around Oakland use an independent coach.

When families book

Oakland families most often book private coaching in January and February before spring tryouts, and again during the summer before club tournaments. Coaches travel directly to the family, so no commute is needed.

Fields families use

Your backyard, a local park, or your club's field: you and your coach settle it directly, anywhere inside their travel radius.

Can I pick the coach I want?

STXZ matches you with an independent coach based on your location, the player's level, position, and goals. You review that coach's profile by email first and can request a different match before anything is billed.

Is this a fit for a brand-new player in Oakland?

Yes. Tell STXZ where your player is starting so the match accounts for their level. Beginners work on catching, cradling, and ground balls; experienced players focus on their position.

When do I actually pay?

Once you approve a match and agree on a start date, your invoice arrives by email. It is due in full at least five days before the first lesson. Registration itself requires no payment.

What does it cost in Oakland?

Rates are per lesson and set for your zip code. Packages of 6 and 12 lessons lower the per-lesson rate, and the booking app accepts any count from 1 to 18. There is a one-time $20 service fee per player.

What if the first session is not a fit?

Contact STXZ within seven days of that lesson and choose a rematch with another coach at no additional charge or a refund of the lesson fees paid. The service fee is not refundable.

Where can we train, and what should we bring?

A backyard, park, or school field within the coach's travel radius, arranged directly with your coach. Bring your stick, protective equipment, and water. Indoor or paid facility charges are yours to cover.

Who are the coaches in Oakland?

Independent contractors on the STXZ roster, not STXZ employees. Each passes a criminal background check and completes STXZ safety and conduct training before taking a first lesson. Coaching and playing history is provided by the coach, and clients are responsible for vetting their matched coach before booking.
