How players come up here

The programs a Short Hills player moves through, youngest first.

  1. Youth and rec

    Entry-level rec and travel

Boys and girls in Short Hills enter lacrosse through rec and travel programs that compete in the North Jersey Junior Lacrosse League and the New Jersey Junior Girls Lacrosse League, with seasons running from March through mid-June. Registration for many programs in the region opens in November.

  2. Middle school

    League play through grade eight

Middle school players in the Short Hills area compete in the NJJLL for boys and the New Jersey Junior Girls Lacrosse League for girls, both US Lacrosse-affiliated leagues covering northern New Jersey. The competition level rises steadily through eighth grade as players prepare for high school tryouts.

  3. High school

    NJSIAA spring tournament chase

High school lacrosse in New Jersey runs under the NJSIAA, with practices opening in March, league games filling April into May, and the state tournament running from late May through early June. Programs in Summit and across the region regularly compete deep into the postseason.

  4. Summer and fall

    Club and travel tournament season

After the high school season closes, players move into club and travel lacrosse through summer and fall, with weekend tournaments across the region. Tri-State Lacrosse runs travel teams, camps, and clinics for boys across northern New Jersey, and fall ball leagues and indoor winter clinics fill the rest of the calendar.

Can I pick the coach I want?

STXZ matches you with an independent coach based on your location, the player's level, position, and goals. You review that coach's profile by email first and can request a different match before anything is billed.

Is this a fit for a brand-new player in Short Hills?

Yes. Tell STXZ where your player is starting so the match accounts for their level. Beginners work on catching, cradling, and ground balls; experienced players focus on their position.

When do I actually pay?

Once you approve a match and agree on a start date, your invoice arrives by email. It is due in full at least five days before the first lesson. Registration itself requires no payment.

What does it cost in Short Hills?

Rates are per lesson and set for your zip code. Packages of 6 and 12 lessons lower the per-lesson rate, and the booking app accepts any count from 1 to 18. There is a one-time $20 service fee per player.

What if the first session is not a fit?

Contact STXZ within seven days of that lesson and choose a rematch with another coach at no additional charge or a refund of the lesson fees paid. The service fee is not refundable.

Where can we train, and what should we bring?

A backyard, park, or school field within the coach's travel radius, arranged directly with your coach. Bring your stick, protective equipment, and water. Indoor or paid facility charges are yours to cover.

Who are the coaches in Short Hills?

Independent contractors on the STXZ roster, not STXZ employees. Each passes a criminal background check and completes STXZ safety and conduct training before taking a first lesson. Coaching and playing history is provided by the coach, and clients are responsible for vetting their matched coach before booking.
