Where Montgomery County players train, and when

The local season, the programs players come up through, and how private coaching fits around them.

Montgomery County feeds one of the Philadelphia region's most active lacrosse pipelines, with SEPYLA and PAGLA youth leagues, Suburban One high school competition, and a year-round club layer connecting players at every stage.

How players come up here

The programs a Montgomery County player moves through, youngest first.

  1. Grades K to 2

    First steps in the game

Many Montgomery County towns run kindergarten through 2nd grade intramural or clinic programs that introduce stick skills and basic rules before full league play begins. Some also field teams in the Delaware Valley Lacrosse League, giving younger players structured game experience in a low-pressure setting.

  2. Grades 3 to 8

    SEPYLA and PAGLA league play

Boys compete in the Southeastern Pennsylvania Youth Lacrosse Association and girls in the Philadelphia Area Girls Lacrosse Association, both running mid-March through late May. The schedule typically includes one weekend game and two weeknight practices, with evaluations held in late February each year.

  3. High school

    Suburban One and PIAA tournament

Montgomery County high school programs compete in the Suburban One League under PIAA District 1. The spring season opens with practices in early March, league games run through mid-May, and District 1 playoffs lead into the PIAA state tournament, which concludes at Penn State in early June.

  4. Club and travel

    Summer and fall club season

After the PIAA season closes, players move into club and travel programs. Clubs including Mesa, Team TEN, Dynasty Elite, and Forge Lacrosse Club hold tryouts in June and July and run weekend tournaments through the summer. Fall ball and winter box or indoor clinics keep players active from August through February.

Where private coaching fits

How families in and around Montgomery County use an independent coach.

When families book

Families preparing for PIAA tryouts and the spring season opening in early March most often reach out to STXZ in January and February. A second wave books in July and August before fall ball and club tournament weekends. Coaches travel directly to the family.

Fields families use

Your backyard, a local park, or your club's field: you and your coach settle it directly, anywhere inside their travel radius.

Can I pick the coach I want?

STXZ matches you with an independent coach based on your location, the player's level, position, and goals. You review that coach's profile by email first and can request a different match before anything is billed.

Is this a fit for a brand-new player in Montgomery County?

Yes. Tell STXZ where your player is starting so the match accounts for their level. Beginners work on catching, cradling, and ground balls; experienced players focus on their position.

When do I actually pay?

Once you approve a match and agree on a start date, your invoice arrives by email. It is due in full at least five days before the first lesson. Registration itself requires no payment.

What does it cost in Montgomery County?

Rates are per lesson and set for your zip code. Packages of 6 and 12 lessons lower the per-lesson rate, and the booking app accepts any count from 1 to 18. There is a one-time $20 service fee per player.

What if the first session is not a fit?

Contact STXZ within seven days of that lesson and choose a rematch with another coach at no additional charge or a refund of the lesson fees paid. The service fee is not refundable.

Where can we train, and what should we bring?

A backyard, park, or school field within the coach's travel radius, arranged directly with your coach. Bring your stick, protective equipment, and water. Indoor or paid facility charges are yours to cover.

Who are the coaches in Montgomery County?

Independent contractors on the STXZ roster, not STXZ employees. Each passes a criminal background check and completes STXZ safety and conduct training before taking a first lesson. Coaching and playing history is provided by the coach, and clients are responsible for vetting their matched coach before booking.
