Where Doraville players train, and when

The local season, the programs players come up through, and how private coaching fits around them.

Doraville sits close enough to Brookhaven, Chamblee, and Sandy Springs that families here tap into the same DeKalb County lacrosse pipeline feeding Marist and the area's club programs.

How players come up here

The programs a Doraville player moves through, youngest first.

  1. PreK to grade 8

    Rec leagues and youth teams

Players often start in rec programs like Surge Lacrosse, which runs a K to 8th grade league in Atlanta along with Surge Select travel teams. These give Doraville kids an entry point before they move into district feeder programs.

  2. Middle school

    Feeder programs and fall divisions

Middle schoolers mostly play through high school district feeder teams and youth age-group squads, and the Atlanta Lacrosse League adds fall middle school divisions. This is where players start aligning with the high school they'll eventually play for.

  3. High school

    GHSA season and division play

GHSA practice opens in mid-January, matches begin in early February, and playoffs run through late April with state finals in mid-May. Marist School in nearby Brookhaven competes in GHSA Division 1, one of the closer high school programs to Doraville.

  4. Summer and fall

    Club tryouts and travel play

Club and travel programs including Team 91 Georgia, Dirty Birds, Atlanta Aces, and Atlanta Surge Select run fall tournaments through summer events after the high school season wraps. Tryouts often happen in July, and fall ball runs September through November.

Where private coaching fits

How families in and around Doraville use an independent coach.

When families book

Many Doraville families book private sessions in that second wave of summer, after club tryouts settle rosters, then again heading into the winter as GHSA practice nears. The coach comes to the family, so no field reservation is needed.

Fields families use

Your backyard, a local park, or your club's field: you and your coach settle it directly, anywhere inside their travel radius.

Can I pick the coach I want?

STXZ matches you with an independent coach based on your location, the player's level, position, and goals. You review that coach's profile by email first and can request a different match before anything is billed.

Is this a fit for a brand-new player in Doraville?

Yes. Tell STXZ where your player is starting so the match accounts for their level. Beginners work on catching, cradling, and ground balls; experienced players focus on their position.

When do I actually pay?

Once you approve a match and agree on a start date, your invoice arrives by email. It is due in full at least five days before the first lesson. Registration itself requires no payment.

What does it cost in Doraville?

Rates are per lesson and set for your zip code. Packages of 6 and 12 lessons lower the per-lesson rate, and the booking app accepts any count from 1 to 18. There is a one-time $20 service fee per player.

What if the first session is not a fit?

Contact STXZ within seven days of that lesson and choose a rematch with another coach at no additional charge or a refund of the lesson fees paid. The service fee is not refundable.

Where can we train, and what should we bring?

A backyard, park, or school field within the coach's travel radius, arranged directly with your coach. Bring your stick, protective equipment, and water. Indoor or paid facility charges are yours to cover.

Who are the coaches in Doraville?

Independent contractors on the STXZ roster, not STXZ employees. Each passes a criminal background check and completes STXZ safety and conduct training before taking a first lesson. Coaching and playing history is provided by the coach, and clients are responsible for vetting their matched coach before booking.
