Where Atlanta players train, and when

The local season, the programs players come up through, and how private coaching fits around them.

Atlanta blends city rec lacrosse through Surge with easy access to the northern suburbs, where GHSA powerhouses and club programs give city players plenty of paths to keep developing.

How players come up here

The programs a Atlanta player moves through, youngest first.

  1. PreK to grade 8

    City rec and youth entry

Surge Lacrosse runs a K to 8th grade rec league right in Atlanta, giving city families a close entry point before kids consider travel options like Surge Select. Families further out can also look to programs such as Roswell Youth Lacrosse or Newtown Recreation Lacrosse.

  2. Middle school

Feeder programs and fall league play

Middle schoolers mostly play through high school district feeder programs and age-group teams, and the Atlanta Lacrosse League adds fall middle school divisions for extra game time. This is where players start sharpening stick skills and positioning ahead of high school tryouts.

  3. High school

    GHSA competition every spring

GHSA sanctions boys and girls lacrosse in Divisions 1 through 3, with practice opening in mid-January and matches starting in early February. Atlanta programs including Westminster, The Lovett School and Pace Academy compete in Division 1, with playoffs beginning in late April and state finals in mid-May.

  4. Summer and fall

    Club travel and fall ball

Once the high school season wraps, club and travel programs such as Atlanta Surge Select and Atlanta Aces take over with tournaments running from fall through summer, and tryouts often held in July. Fall ball runs September to November for players who want to keep playing.

Where private coaching fits

How families in and around Atlanta use an independent coach.

When families book

Families most commonly reach out in December, right before GHSA practice opens in mid-January, so a coach can help a player sharpen skills before tryouts and the season start. Others book in summer ahead of fall ball, and the coach always comes to the family.

Fields families use

Your backyard, a local park, or your club's field: you and your coach settle it directly, anywhere inside their travel radius.

Talk to the STXZ team
Can I pick the coach I want?

STXZ matches you with an independent coach based on your location, the player's level, position, and goals. You review that coach's profile by email first and can request a different match before anything is billed.

Is this a fit for a brand-new player in Atlanta?

Yes. Tell STXZ where your player is starting so the match accounts for their level. Beginners work on catching, cradling, and ground balls; experienced players focus on their position.

When do I actually pay?

Once you approve a match and agree on a start date, your invoice arrives by email. It is due in full at least five days before the first lesson. Registration itself requires no payment.

What does it cost in Atlanta?

Rates are per lesson and set for your zip code. Packages of 6 and 12 lessons lower the per-lesson rate, and the booking app accepts any count from 1 to 18. There is a one-time $20 service fee per player.

What if the first session is not a fit?

Contact STXZ within seven days of that lesson and choose a rematch with another coach at no additional charge or a refund of the lesson fees paid. The service fee is not refundable.

Where can we train, and what should we bring?

A backyard, park, or school field within the coach's travel radius, arranged directly with your coach. Bring your stick, protective equipment, and water. Indoor or paid facility charges are yours to cover.

Who are the coaches in Atlanta?

Independent contractors on the STXZ roster, not STXZ employees. Each passes a criminal background check and completes STXZ safety and conduct training before taking a first lesson. Coaching and playing history is provided by the coach, and clients are responsible for vetting their matched coach before booking.
